Flex Day 2025. Morning session. An overview of flexibility progress

You should come to hear about the state of flexibility progress in Aotearoa New Zealand and insights from Australia into how people think about flex, plus get a taste of flexibility activity, ask questions and share your expertise.

  • the state of flexibility progress
  • a quick overview of 3-4 flexibility projects, and an EECA update on the flexibility projects it is supporting
  • an Australian perspective on what causes people to say yes to flex and how to delight the customer
  • roundtable to discuss the flexibility projects.

Flex Day 2025. Afternoon session. Bringing FlexForum expertise to bear on getting stuff done

You should come if you are developing something new (ie, a pilot, trial or product idea), might be involved in delivering a new thing, or want to know where things are headed and help shape the direction of travel.

Several projects involving the real life use of flexibility are kicking off right now, including Local Flex, the Western Bay of Plenty flexibility programme, Queenstown accelerator and the various Scale demand flexibility projects. All of them involve FlexForum Members and many of them should deliver the ideas coming out of Flex Day 2024.

This session is about helping this flex progress to go FAST by sharing and discussing the questions and challenges that everyone has that come with standing up, participating in and delivering a flexibility project.

There will be five 20-minute sessions to canvass all the things you are, or might need to be, thinking about across these aspects of a project.

  1. Community/customer engagement, trust-building and recruitment. …How do we get people involved? Who gets them to say yes to flex?
  2. Equipment installation process. …Is the flex sitting there ready and waiting, or do we need to install connectivity or more flex-y resources? How hard could it be?
  3. Flex product design and procurement. …What flex product are you buying? How do I know the location and size of the flex potentially available?
  4. What to measure/monitor and why. … What do we need to know? What questions are we asking?
  5. Beyond the pilot. …What happens the day after the pilot ends?

We will also discuss how to make sharing what is being learned easy to do and easy to find. Our only chance at hitting BCG’s 2GW target for flex is for the whole industry to learn together. Some of the questions we need to be asking: ‘Is there a need for better transparency about what’s going on?’, ‘What’s the right level of transparency?’, ‘How do we make it easy for the busy pilot people to share this information?’, and ‘How can FlexForum make their life easier?’.
